Hello gearhead, this is Greg Stanley and welcome to Auto Sausage where we grind together automotive awesomeness. Congratulations to our Auto Sausage Auction Game #5 winner…Thinners! Interesting username… You’ve won approximately $100 worth of Tillamook Beef Jerky. Thinners did an amazing job guessing the correct bid price for all five cool cars from RM Sotheby’s Aubrun Spring auction last weekend and you came within $550! This was our closest guess so far!
This is our second historical win in a row as our previous winner was a 15 year old out of Florida. He did pretty good on this one and placed fifth overall.
Our next Auto Sausage Auction Game is Mecum’s Portland Oregon auction and the Guessing Window opens tomorrow 6/7 and closes on 6/20. The auction dates are 6/20 and 6/21 and to learn more go to Mecum.com. What will you win this round? You’ll win great car care prizes including Buckhead Mechanics Gloves, a Uranium LED Flashlight and a stainless steel tumblers totaling about $70.
To play the Auction Game, go to www.AutoSausage.com and my review of the five cool cars will be on next week’s episode along with my interview of Mecum TV Commentator John Kraman. If you think I know a lot of stuff about cars, I know nothing compared to John so I am super excited to get to know him and his passion for cars! Be sure to sign up for reminders as I am getting a lot of interest from sponsors and some future prizes include $200 worth of Star Wars autographs!
So how accurate were my guesses for Game #5? I was not as good as Thinners but I would have finished 2nd if my guesses counted…which they do not. Through Game #5, I have an 85.7% guessing accuracy rate across all cars including the no sales which as I mentioned before can be crazy wildcards. For example, I had a huge miss on Paul Newman’s Porsche, $490k!:) When factoring in only cars that sold, I’m 97.6% accurate which was a 0.1% improvement over last week driven by this week’s results where I was only off by $6k.
Be sure to check out my Instagram feed @AutoSausage for auction updates and cool car pics from my visits as I travel across the US. Recent pics include ones from the Newport Car Museum and Audrain Museum in Rhode Island.
Let’s talk about what happened at RM Sotheby’s Auburn Spring.
1967 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray 427/390 Convertible (Lot 6057)
1994 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo Targa (Lot 6110)
If you are keeping track, after Game #5, for the cars in our Auction Game, only 15.8% sold at or above the presale estimate, 36.8% did not sell and a whopping 47.4% either did not sell or sold below the estimate. I try to pick a wide variety of cars and I will continue to tell you what trends I am seeing as we play some more rounds of the Auction Game.
Thanks again for joining me on my automotive adventure and good luck playing! Don’t forget to check out my other podcast called Learn From Others where I share the career journeys of successful individuals with high school and college student. I ask fun car questions at the end so be sure to listen in. I will talk to you next week!
